A Spotlight on
Bedding Industries of America’s
V.P. of Operations
“I truly enjoy being able to work with other factories and be able to administer a program that everyone benefits from and delivers results.”
This week we ask five questions to Mike Campbell; he is the V.P. of Operations at Bedding Industries of America, the founding factory of the Eclipse International group located in North Brunswick, N.J.
Q: Mike, how long have you been with Bedding Industries of America and what attracted you to the company in the first place?
A: I’ve been at BIA since 2000, 19 years. I was looking for part-time work while going to school for Information Technology, I was 20 years old. To be honest, BIA was conveniently located so it was a “No Brainer”.
Q: How have you seen your position change during your tenure?
A: I started working on the ERP system called Mattress Maker. My responsibility was to get products in the system. Later on, I took a position in Order Entry and continued from there learning every job in the office.
Q: What is the most critical aspect of your job?
A: Making sure that all of our pricing is accurate and updated as needed.
Q: In addition to your responsibilities with the N.J. factory of Bedding Industries of America, you also have an important role with the SAATVA program which involves 19 factories in the U.S. and Canada. What do you like the most about that responsibility?
A: I truly enjoy being able to work with other factories and be able to administer a program that everyone benefits from and delivers results.
Q: Last question. You have two young children, are you going to encourage them to follow in your footsteps (when they grow up) and have a career in the bedding industry?
A: Yes, but it will all depend on what they want to do; which is what’s most important.
We congratulate Mike on his long and great career at Bedding Industries of America.
And so it goes…….
“Since loyalty is an important criterion for hiring, employers tend to value longevity over job-hopping. A resume showing longevity with a company makes a stronger impression. Once you find a good job consider investing time (several years) with that employer.”
